Why ‘Thinking About Thinking’ Is Your Key to Reinvention (And How I Used It to Launch My Creative Business)
"Behind the Scenes of Box Cutter Co." Issue No. 1
I recently signed a contract for $10k per month — most of it creative work.
This represents less than 50% of my forecasted revenue generators for the next 10-12 months (e.g. Services and Ghostwriting above).
In many digital writing circles, this is a penultimate level for many (e.g. $10k/month). It’s a great core contract for the next while and it’s been built from scratch.
One of the most awesome components of this contract is I thoroughly enjoy the work, the client, and it’s a non-profit organization. Much of it is writing, Ghostwriting, and designing educational materials — and almost all of it is creative.
(It’s also a ‘no-hustle’ required role — as in no sending 50 DMs per day, cold outreach, or other hustle-hype tactics)
Even better?
In the last two weeks, I’ve met with more prospective Ghostwriting clients. Inquiries and the search for more collaborative relationships is on.
Fluid and Flexible Mindsets
Over the years, I’ve learned success in almost any endeavour isn’t just about having the “right skills”, the right education or bang-up strategy—it’s about having a fluid and flexible mindset.
Box Cutter Co. is one branch of my ongoing efforts to launch creative and authentic businesses from scratch — with digital writing at the core.
To build a “living in the making” — NOT “making a living”.
Long before I left a six-figure career in the public sector (in April 2022), I was already practicing thinking about thinking—or metacognition.
To launch this new series of posts “Behind the Scenes of Box Cutter Co.” for paying subscribers, it seemed fitting to start with posts on the mental and mindset foundations of launching a creative business (or several).
How I Used “Thinking About Thinking” to Leave a 6-Figure Salary
Walking away from a stable, high-paying job in the corporate public sector wasn’t simple. However, some critical tools supported decision-making clarity and manageability. (I’ll get to those below).
